How powerful is your online identity?

Personal branding is going hi-tech. It's not just about what people say about you, it's also about managing what the web says about you: your online identity. The Online Identity Calculator tells you how strong your online brand is.

tIt's only been up for a few weeks, but already 20,000 people have taken it - that's a LOT of buzz!

Oddly enough, I've seen all sorts of negative blog posts from people who've taken the test and got low scores. Rather than do something about it, they'd rather to whine about how (and remember to read this in a whiny, nasal voice) "my great uncle is a world champion snail racer and has the same name as me, so it's unfair that I got a low score. This sucks."

Well, here's the thing. Managing your online identity is about getting that score up. If someone has the same name as you, that's the card you got dealt and that's the hand you have to play with (sorry, but I'm in Vegas on business at the moment, so you'll have to put up with some gambling metaphors for a while). You have to take action to get your score up, by getting more of your results to appear in the front pages of Google. Blogging is a good first step, but rather than a negative post about how bad your online brand is, why not use the opportunity to build up your online identity!

I agree, if you already have a score of 10, you have nothing to look forward to and less to develop. Life is about challenges!
